I arrived on Garfield just as the last sliver of gold faded on the horizon, winds still very light and warm. My camelback gurgled, urging me on to to cool waters of Garfield Campsite, where I used a Bota Outback filter to whip up a new batch of Accelerade. (There is no faster, lighter, or cheaper filter that I know of - even the Katadyn Extream is much heavier and bulkier, although I am pretty sure the Katadyn filters viruses whereas the Bota cannot.)

I was glad to be able to tackle the oncoming night while still fresh, and kept up a good pace to Galehead. I had done this section with a big pack of camera gear a few weeks before, and remember grumbling over the broken, up and down nature of this part. It felt so wonderful by comparison, to be able to quickly zip down the same steep sections without the knee-shattering effects of a big load on my back. After the usual breathtaking shot of a pile of rocks at the summit of Galehead, I was down past the hut and on the climb to South Twin. Such a lovely, steep chute of boulders, fun in all seasons! Here I left my pack for the dart over to North Twin, where I found the summit boulder sleeping blissfully. A quick portrait and it was back to Southie and down the Twinway towards Guyot, which appeared to be sporting a number of new boardwalks. Midnight passes. 8 hours, 8 down and 13 to go.

This just might happen yet!
