Cath called back to keep up the routine of cut off cell phone calls, which I initiated on the drive over. Calling to let me know that it was a really beautiful sunset. With many exclamations over the view of the sunset from where she was. The anguish, I cannot fully describe - to be stuck "in the weeds" while pastels play in the sky!

Luckily, I was able to get a few satisfactory images from one of the steep slabs on the trail that has a clear view of Lafayette, although I wasn't able to find a tree suitable for the GorillaPod the hang from. So handheld it was, where the Image Stabilizer did help - a few frames at 1/8 sec. came out fairly well. The small size of the camera is wonderful for carrying ( in a small Amphipod Rapid Access Pouch on my waistbelt), but the downside is that it is much harder to hold steady than a larger SLR. When running, the camera shake issue is of course compounded by a high heart rate, so I will take all the IS I can get.

And it was a truly amazing, very unusual sunset - layers of pink and blue pastels over the Bonds, and vivid oranges in the West.

I don't remember ever seeing anything quite like it.
